Caledon Log Homes

Increasing numbers of families are choosing to live in solid wood homes. The many reasons for this trend include the environmental advantages of building with
renewable all natural materials, and the warm, inviting atmosphere and inherent beauty of natural wood.

This illustration shows a section of wood from a softwood (coniferous) tree enlarged 30 times. This enlargement shows the many air pockets that are trapped in the individual wood cells. These air pockets are the reason behind the excellent insulation value in this type of wood.

Caledon Log homes takes pride in using only the finest building products, constructing our homes out of Ontario White Pine or B.C. Cedar. We use only winter-cut wood (in winter the sap has stopped running and the wood contains only fiber, with no natural sugars to attract boring insects and worms that can disfigure the lumber). After being sawn into square timbers, the wood is carefully stacked on spacers for proper air drying.

Our computerized notching machine cuts the interlocking saddlenotch corners to exact tolerances, providing a degree of fit that was previously unheard of in the log construction industry. Throughout our 30 years of experience the staff of Caledon Log Homes has concentrated on building methods directed at maintaining long-term structural integrity and beauty. It is these seemingly small details that separate Caledon Log Homes from the competition now , and for generations to come.

Log Drip Edge

Each row of logs features a unique drip edge that allows rain to flow freely down the outside of the wall, stopping the water from becoming trapped between the logs where it could eventually cause deterioration.

Log Profiles

Calendon Log Homes have 3 profiles of logs, 8" x  8" Dlog, 6" x 8" Dlog, and 8" round - round log. They all have standard dual tongue and groove system.

Window and Door Installation

Windows and doors, including trim, are set back into the log walls so that rain and/or snow cannot become trapped on top, where moisture build-up can cause damage to the units and the log walls around them

Three-foot Roof Overhangs

Large roof overhangs protect the log from all types of weather, as well as supplying protection from the hot summer sun. In the wintertime, when the sun is low in the sky, the sun's rays can come in under the eaves to supply warmth and light.

Quality Materials

Our standard material package includes all materials necessary to complete the weather-tight construction of the log home from sub-floor to roof, including windows and doors, interior stud partitions, and 25 year warranty shingles. Caledon Log Homes combines top quality materials and products with innovative building features to produce superior, advanced home designs.

Custom Design

At Caledon Log Homes, we believe that while every home should be comfortable, energy efficient, and pleasing to the eye, it should also reflect the owner's individual lifestyle. That's why we take the time to help each and every Caledon Log Homes customer design and plan a home. We want it to be as much an asset for them in years to come as it is today.

Flexibility

With Caledon Log Homes, flexibility is the key. We will supply both materials and labour, or the materials alone, to any stage of completion. Complete interior finishing packages are available with our "Standard Plus Package" designed for those who prefer to purchase a completed home.
